Water softening involves the removal of calcium, magnesium, and certain other metal cations present in hard water. Hard water contains high levels of these minerals, which can lead to scale formation, reduced efficiency of appliances, and various other issues.
Water softeners are specifically designed to remove positively charged ions, primarily calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+), which are commonly known as ‘hardness minerals’. The process involves the use of ion exchangers, typically resin beads, that replace the calcium and magnesium ions with other ions, such as sodium.
Sodium chloride is used as the regenerate chemical to convert exhausted softener resin back to its sodium form. During regeneration, the resin exchanges the collected hardness ions with sodium ions present in the sodium chloride. The actual regeneration time depends on the output and the total hardness of the input water.
Water softeners reduce hardness to a level of 5 ppm as CaCO3, referred to as Industrial Zero hardness. This minimizes hard water buildup, making tubs, showers, and sinks easier to clean.
We are a leading supplier of a wide range of softener plants designed to remove hardness from water. These plants prevent performance problems in boilers, cooling towers, and chillers by preventing scale formation. Our softener plants are available in various materials and flow rates to meet diverse needs.
